Kin “Termite” Brown-Lane
Neighborhood: Cherry Hill
Kin Brown-Lane, who is known as ‘Termite’ in Cherry Hill and throughout Baltimore City, is a lifelong Cherry Hill resident and community leader. She has been a resident of Cherry Hill Public Housing for over fifty years. For over twenty years, Termite has fed families during Thanksgiving, assisted by giving out toys and gifts to children during Christmas, has welcomed new tenants who move into Cherry Hill homes, sharing resources with them and making sure the new tenants know what is available in the community, and has also been active in the schools in Cherry Hill.
As a trained mediator, she is also often sought after to mediate and resolve conflict in Cherry Hill homes, the various schools within Cherry Hill, and throughout the Cherry Hill community. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Termite took a leading role in assisting the various organizations within the Cherry Hill community with innovative ideas to support children and families within Cherry Hill homes, along with assisting with identifying where the most needs were. In this way, she was able to bring resources and assist with strategies to deeply support her community. Termite is a trusted and active community leader who is often sought after by various community organizations, public servants, and community members to assist in providing solutions and ideas to improve the community, keep the community safe, and works to cultivate the culture of love that she experienced growing up in the Cherry Hill community.
She is a mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, and good friend to many. She comes from a family that gave back to the community. As a child, she remembers assisting her mother Ernestine Brown and her aunt Hannah Beverly as they assisted tenants with their bills, getting school clothes for children, feeding families during various holidays, and much more. Termite is fully dedicated to her community of Cherry Hill, and honors those who have paved the way before her.
